Description
Deflector plates are the key to turning your Primo Large Oval into a true multi-purpose cooker.
By blocking and redirecting rising heat, these plates create the indirect cooking environment needed for low & slow barbecue, two-zone grilling, and consistent top-down convection.
Most Common Uses
- Two Plates on Racks: Full indirect setup for long barbecue cooks.
- One Plate on a Rack: Creates direct and indirect zones for two-zone grilling.
Two Brand Options
We offer both Large Primo OEM deflector plates and Large Ceramic Grill Store (CGS) plates:
- Both are D-shaped and made to the same thickness.
- CGS plates offer slightly more coverage thanks to longer straight edges.
- Packaging: Primo and CGS plates sold as a pair.

How Deflector Plates Work
Deflector plates sit between the fire and your food, creating a barrier for stable and consistent indirect heat.
- Smoking / BBQ: Use two plates for a full indirect cook.
- Two-Zone Grilling: Use one plate over the non-fire side.

Deflector Racks Are Required
Each plate requires a deflector rack (sold separately) to sit at the correct height beneath the cooking grids.
How the Racks Work
- The rack drops inside the fire bowl to support the plate under the cooking grid.
- Setup is simple: place the rack → set the plate → add the cooking grid in the up position.
Rack Options
Both Primo OEM racks and Ceramic Grill Store (CGS) racks are available:
- CGS racks offer more flexibility, easier lump access, and wok capability.
- All rack options are sold in pairs.
